Changes to Vitamin B12 Injections during the COVID-19 Crisis
Thank you for your continued support and co-operation during these challenging times for the NHS. As you may be aware, we have had to make significant changes to the way we see and treat our patients during the Coronavirus outbreak.
As a result of these changes we need to review the way we manage your vitamin B12 deficiency.
You were previously having a vitamin B12 injection to manage your deficiency. We have carefully reviewed your records and decided that you will no longer be having these injections. Instead we are giving this medication in the tablet form.
We have issued a prescription to your community pharmacy. Please start taking these tablets immediately. The number of tablets you need to take will be stated on your medication label.
Please note that this change has been made after carefully reviewing national and international guidance on managing vitamin B12 deficiencies.
Changing from injections to tablets is safe and effective, and common practice in many countries.
This is being done to avoid the need to leave your home to attend the surgery, and to protect you and our staff from COVID-19 infection in the next few weeks and months.
We appreciate this may be different to the information you have received over the years, but we are certain that this will not cause any harm and the decision is made with your safety in mind.
