Flu Vaccines

More than 2,100 patients at Lakeside Healthcare at Oundle have received their flu vaccines

Eligible patients from Lakeside Healthcare at Oundle have already taken up the offer of a flu vaccine in preparation for what could be a challenging winter marked by the widespread circulation of respiratory viruses.

Lakeside Healthcare at Oundle has announced that a remarkable number of patients from the over-65 high-risk group, who are particularly susceptible to the flu, have chosen to safeguard their health and protect those around them by getting vaccinated. There remains a group of eligible patients under the age of 65, who are still at risk, yet to come forward for their vaccine.

Dr Sabine Lijesen, Senior GP Partner at Lakeside Healthcare at Oundle, said: "One of our current priorities is to help protect our patients from flu this autumn and winter.

"I'm delighted to see many eligible patients choosing to stay healthy by getting vaccinated and I encourage all eligible patients to consider having the vaccine.

"The flu vaccine provides you with the best defence against flu and if you get flu, it can help reduce the severity of your symptoms."

The flu vaccine is given free on the NHS to adults who:

  • are 65 and over (including those who will be 65 by 31 March 2024)
  • have certain health conditions
  • are pregnant
  • are in long-stay residential care
  • receive a carer's allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person who may be at risk if you get sick
  • live with someone who is more likely to get a severe infection due to a weakened immune system, such as someone living with HIV, someone who has had a transplant, or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.

The surgery will soon begin administering vaccinations for their housebound patients.

For eligible patients who have been previously contacted but have not yet arranged an appointment, the link provided can still be used to make an appointment.
