Huma Bhatti is our new Clinical Pharmacist working at surgeries across the South Peterborough Primary Care Network including at New Queen Street and Stanground surgeries. She has close contact with patients, carrying out medication reviews and providing advice and help including via our online platform, Doctrin.
Huma says that 'pharmacy chose her' as she decided on the spur of the moment to apply for a casual job in a community pharmacy. She enjoyed it so much that she studied to become a pharmacist and has now been in the profession for ten years and has previously worked at Lakeside Oundle.
She said:
'As pharmacists are a relatively new addition to General Practice it is a real opportunity to put your clinical skills to use. The best thing is helping patients and making sure that they have the medicine they need. We do structured medication reviews which are in depth and you can talk about other avenues for pain relief, such as TENS machines, physiotherapy or more holistic methods, which can complement prescription medications.
'I have had great opportunities at Lakeside and really liked working at Oundle but wanted a change in order to progress my career, including by getting my prescribing qualification. There are always lots of things to do and get involved in.'
