Lakeside Corby has launched a 'Same Day Team' of clinicians to allow patients with urgent conditions to be triaged to the most appropriate professional along the 'Right Person, Right Place, Right Time' principle and give GPs more capacity to deal with patients with more complex medical needs and long-term health conditions.
The Same Day Team comprises 'first contact' physiotherapists, physician associates, social prescriber link workers, minor illness nurses and nurse practitioners, all directly supported by a GP. It complements existing GP services and will, in time, be supplemented by the addition of a further triage nurse and 'first contact' mental health practitioners. Patients will continue to be firstly assessed on the telephone and invited to attend a face-to-face appointment if clinically required.
Patient Services Manager, Mandy Black, said: 'We had previously trialled something like this pre-pandemic, however this refined and upgraded version is boosted by additional practitioners and more direct supervision. The practice has also started to release a number of pre-bookable appointments; we hope the combination of the Same Day Team and pre-bookable appointments will allow us to balance the needs of patients given a variety of ongoing challenges including consideration of social distancing guidelines. We are monitoring the roll-out of the service and are confident it will lead to better use of our clinicians and greater efficiency and consistency'.
