Lead Nurses meet for teamwork talk and training
Lead Nurses and other professionals from across our Group met for an afternoon of training and lectures including a talk by Professor Elizabeth Anderson from Leicester Medical School.
The event was the first that has been specifically organised so that staff can meet peers from other sites face to face and it is envisaged that similar sessions will be held for other clinical staff.
Prof Anderson is a former midwife and is now Professor of Interprofessional Education. She spoke about the importance of developing 'inter-disciplinary' teams where different strengths are encouraged and valued alongside respect and good communication. The delegates also worked together to formulate a team ethos and shared set of values.
Dr Ward's talk was on 'Teaching and the Benefits Personally, Professionally and to Individuals' while Richard Sharpe and Mel Mullins from the Primary Care Skills Academy focused on 'Planning for the Future'. The event was organised by Group Lead Nurse, Kerry Gardner, who rounded proceedings off by talking about the differences between Primary and Secondary Care.
She said: 'Although we do liaise closely across our different sites it was the first time that we have had the opportunity to meet face to face. We reflected on what teamwork means and heard about the additional opportunities and benefits that working at Lakeside brings. It was a busy and informative time of collaboration which we hope to repeat on a regular basis.'
