Beauty Marowa is one of the first student nurses to have undertaken a placement at one of our practices and enjoyed it so much she is now planning a career in Primary Care.
Beauty felt very welcomed by the team at New Queen Street and Stanground. She spent time with a multitude of colleagues and was mentored by Lead Nurse Bev Williams. She spent five weeks at New Queen Street, observing patient consultations, attending clinics and seeing our varying software systems in operation.
Beauty, who is a second-year student at Anglia Ruskin, said: 'I have been with different team members, from reception, admin, pharmacy and dispensing teams, health care assistants, nurses and GPs and learned about SystmOne and Doctrin. I loved every bit of my placement and was really welcomed and made to feel part of the team.
'I was really nervous beforehand, but Bev Williams, the Lead nurse made me really comfortable and mentored me. It was one of the most organised placements I have done, everyone was happy to share their knowledge and experience. It was challenging but rewarding as I was exposed to practices which reinforced my university tuition and it was really good for my development. I loved the interaction with patients and the baby immunisation clinics. I will definitely go into Primary Care and would like to work here as it was so warm, welcoming and interesting.'
Bev said: 'It was really exciting for us at New Queen Street to introduce Beauty to Primary Care. It is so important to mentor and encourage the future generation of nurses and show them the career pathways and opportunities that are open to them. We will definitely offer a placement to another student nurse, but Beauty will be a tough act to follow as she had a really positive and dynamic effect on our team.'
