Mark Smith is our newest social prescriber helping people with a range of non-clinical and lifestyle issues. He enjoys the people-centred work and contact with clients.
His background in science, health and social care has given him empathy and listening skills which are crucial, both in face to face and telephone appointments. Mark said: 'It is about building a rapport and I may have experience of what a patient is going through. That can make a big difference to them.
'There is scope for motivational interviewing and behavioural change approaches to improve a situation because people can engage and develop more awareness and responsibility. With this role you explore coaching with people because you are dealing with situations where people may not necessarily be highly motivated, so need a bit of additional help and someone to talk to.'
